Spelling words will look different from child to child.  Some words will patterned words. For example, if they know how to spell "in", then they can figure out how to spell "shin".  Others will have words that are their sight words, as these words are often commonly misspelled.  For instance, the word "down" is not only often in books (sight words)...but also younger children will misspell those words in their writing.  They might be able to read the word, but can't spell it correctly.
